Quiz The Cabinet - 17 February 2016

Members of Hounslow's Labour Cabinet held a poorly attended "Quiz the Cabinet" event at Chiswick Town Hall on Wednesday 18th February. Council Leader, Steve Curran, acknowledged that the meeting could have been better advertised. The majority of the people in the audience were individuals from other parts of the Borough wishing to raise non-Chiswick related issues. No time was found to take questions from three ladies Oxford Gardens who wished to ask why their street trees had not been replaced and now their pavements were to be removed and replaced with tarmac. Written answers were promised to all the questions that were asked.

Chinese Lantern Festival Lights Up Chiswick House Gardens

The Magical Lantern Festival has opened in Chiswick House Gardens with a colourful display which will last until March 6th.Brightly coloured flamingos, zebras and elephants can be seen as the grounds light up each evening, along with lanterns, temples, a Pagoda and even a giant dragon.

Chiswick Councillors promote Street Improvement Fund

“A Call to Ideas!” Chiswick Councillors promote Street Improvement Fund The latest round of applications for the “Street Improvement Fund” have been opened to “support proposals to change the street environment in response to resident suggestions”. The scheme which has received funding of £100,000yr will be shared across the Borough to help small projects above and beyond the remit of Hounslow Highways.

Local reaction to Airports Commission recommendation

“I have consistently opposed the expansion of Heathrow and nothing in the Commission’s Report has made me change my mind.  Expansion would significantly damage our quality of life in the Hounslow – noise, pollution, traffic gridlock would all increase.   It’s important to note that the Government is not bound by the Commission’s recommendations and we will be lobbying hard and making sure that no one is in any doubt of the major environmental impact expansion at Heathrow would create.” 

LOCAL COUNCILLORS RALLY OPPOSITION TO SKYSCRAPER

Turnham Green Ward Councillors, Samantha Davies, Adrian Lee and Peter Thompson, are launching a “no holes barred” campaign to oppose the construction of a 32 storey skyscraper at Chiswick Roundabout.
